Cancer researchers looking for new opportunities should plan to visit the AACR’s Cancer and Biomedical Research Career Fair during the Annual Meeting at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
The career fair will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 15, in Lobby C at the convention center. Representatives from health care and research organizations, academic institutions, and the pharmaceutical industry will be on-hand to meet with potential candidates and provide information about various scientific opportunities.
The fair will be open to all attendees, from early-career scientists to senior-level researchers. Vern Mitchell, AACR Director of Human Resources, considers 2023 a new beginning because there was no formal career fair at the Annual Meeting in 2022.
“We’re excited for the career fair’s return,” she said. “We’re renewing our commitment to both the employers and to the scientists who are seeking new positions.”
Job seekers can bring a CV and resume to the career fair or create an account and upload their information before the Annual Meeting via CancerCareers.org, a year-round career development resource powered by the AACR. Employers also can create an account and post jobs on the site.
Mitchell encourages job seekers to visit the site and create an account, or create a profile using their LinkedIn account prior to the meeting.
“If they upload their CV or resume beforehand, they will be entered in a drawing to win one of three exciting prizes to be drawn during the meeting,” she said. “But most importantly, they’re getting their resume on CancerCareers and can begin applying for positions through the website immediately.”
The career fair isn’t just for those actively seeking a new position. Mitchell said it’s for all meeting attendees, who may just be looking to see what scientific opportunities are available.
“Attendees will learn more about the different organizations who are exhibiting at the fair,” she said. “It’s an opportunity for our employers to provide information about their organizations and what they do, and for scientists to gain insight on the scientific opportunities that are available to them.”
Beyond the career fair hours on Saturday, a handful of vendors will be available in the CancerCareers Hub at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, April 16-18, for three to four hours each day. That schedule will be set closer to the Annual Meeting.
