Registration is now open for 5K Run/Walk

The annual AACR Runners for Research 5K Run/Walk raises funds to support the AACR, its 54,000 members, and the millions affected by cancer worldwide. This year’s event will be held at 7:30 a.m. ET Saturday, April 15, and will start and end at the South Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

“It’s a great way to get the Annual Meeting started,” said AACR Chief Philanthropic Officer Mitch Stoller. “Not just because it brings everyone together for a worthwhile cause, but also because it’s an activity that promotes prevention and a healthy lifestyle in the name of cancer research.”

This year’s 5K will be the sixth run/walk at the Annual Meeting. Last year’s event, the first after a two-year hiatus, drew 300 participants and raised more than $124,000 for cancer research. Stoller hopes 400 meeting attendees will participate this year and hopes to raise $150,000. The event’s growth comes from its spirited, high-energy vibe that attracts individuals and teams, he said.

“People look forward to getting out first thing in the morning to participate,” Stoller said. “Some of the industry partners come out as teams and wear matching jerseys. It’s become a fun, anticipated part of the meeting.”

Stoller encourages runners and walkers to register for the 5K before the Annual Meeting. Registration will also be open on Friday, April 14, from noon to 7 p.m. ET in West Lobby EF at the convention center. Everyone who has registered in advance can pick up their bibs at this time.

The event also needs volunteers. For more information on the event, to register, donate, or sign up to be a volunteer, visit www.aacr.org/5k.
